People with mild covid symptoms for example a new consistent cough or body temperature 37.8C or above, must self-isolate at home for a minimum of 7 days, according to recent guidance provided by Public Health England.
If the condition worsen or don’t settle out after 7 days, then patients must contact their nearby health services – in the United Kingdom it is the NHS 111 Covid Service.
So how can you take care of someone in your house who gets covid? Laura Foster from the BBC explains precautious you can take while caring for somebody who has it.
Here is how you can care for someone with coronavirus at home.
#1 - What they need
Someone with corona virus symptoms needs rest, nutritious food and to regularly drink water. Paracetamol can help lower a fever but if symptoms get worse or don't go away after a week then contact your health service.
#2 - Isolate their area
They'll need to stay isolated at home for the next seven days. Ideally they should have their own room and food should be left outside their door. if you have to be in the same room keep two meters away and if possible wear a medical mask but don't touch it and throw it away when you leave the room. Do you share a kitchen or a bathroom? In that case have a shared room rules where you use those areas before they do then clean them afterwards.
#3 –Clean, clean, clean
Everything they've touched could be infected so clean things like door handles often. Give them a bin for tissues and don't shake dirty laundry that could spread the virus. Wash your hands regularly after you've been near them, when cooking and before you eat.
#4 - Isolate yourself (and the rest of the house)
Everyone in the house needs to isolate for two weeks. All your medicine and food should be delivered and left on your doorstep. You can exercise outside but keep two meters from everyone else. Remember you can only take care of someone if you yourself are well. Part of their care is your care.
